The maple
trees are the symbol of Azerbaijan.
These majestic trees are to be found in the Hyrcanian (Hirkan) Forest in the
south and in the north of Azerbaijan. Ancient and mysterious, they are
particularly emblematic of the natural heritage of the country. Their
decorative leaves, large crowns and strong trunks have attracted the attention
of naturalists, botanists and gardeners from around the world for centuries.
One of the famous trees is in the yard of Khan Palace in Sheki. The tree was
planted in 1530. Its height is 42 m, while the body amounts 13,50m width. The
trees in the yard of the khan palace have been registered in the "Red
Book" and are protected. They belong to eastern platanus sort. In
Azerbaijani these trees are called “ Chinars”

We have planted a Dragon Tree.
The dragon tree in Portuguese the Dracaena draco l., known by the common
name of Dragon, is a plant of the class Liliopsida, order Asparagales, the
family Ruscaceae (Dracaenaceae) originating from the Atlantic biogeographical
region of Macaronesia, where it is native to the Canary Islands, Madeira and
the Azores, occurring locally from the African coast and neighbor in Cape
Verde. Can reach hundreds of years old, producing large trees. Although common
and much appreciated as ornamental plant in gardens of those archipelagos, the
Dragon is vulnerable in the wild due to destruction of its habitat. Its
abundance varies from relatively common in the Canary Islands the rare on
Madeira Island and most of the Azorean Islands.

Dear Ms
Dzhurkova,
I am writing
from a small Serbian town of Vlasotince. This morning we planted a tree in our
schoolyard thus joining your eTwinning tree campaign. I would like to say that
your idea is really great and we wholeheartidly support it.
We planted
Paulownia tomentosa (common names empress tree, princess tree, foxglove tree,
or kiri) which is a deciduous tree in the family Paulowniaceae, native to central and western China, but
really rare in this part of the world. Paulownia tomentosa is an extremely
fast-growing tree, and we are planning to record its growth in the years to
come.
Thank you
for allowing us to join such an extraordinary project and giving us the
opportunity to celebrate the tenth eTwinning anniversary and our first year on
eTwinning in an aboslutely unique way.
